چکیده

MEMS electrostatic actuators suffer from pull-in instability, making them highly nonlinear and limiting their useful range of motion. This report resolves the performance-limiting issues gap-closing transducer by using an ultrathin dielectric layer (UDL) for actuation. The device has electromechanical coupling coefficient 4.26% average deflection sensitivity 119 nm/V over a 350 nm upto 3.3 V dc bias. UDL capacitance show square law dependence on voltage. can thus be used as actuator full motion with better performance. Additionally, or gap feedback to maintain constant strain. actuation may also combined lower voltage without changing thickness. [2022-0213]

Elastomeric dielectric material has recently become a new alternative for actuator technology. The characteristics of dielectric elastomers placed between two electrodes to withstand large strain when electrodes are charged has attracted the attention of many researcher to study this material for actuator technology. Thus, in the past few years Danfoss Ventures A/S has established their own die...

Electrostatic fringing-field actuation for pull-in free RF-MEMS analogue tunable resonators

This paper presents the design, fabrication and measurement of the first pull-in free tunable evanescent-mode microwave resonator based on arrays of electrostatically actuated fringing-field RF-MEMS tuners. Electrostatic fringing-field actuation (EFFA) is the key on achieving a wide tunable frequency range that is not limited by the conventional pull-in instability. Furthermore, total lack of d...

Push/pull actuation using opto-electrowetting

It is shown theoretically and experimentally that opto-electrowetting may be used for both pulling and pushing liquid droplets. A theoretical nalysis based on the Lippmann-equation and an electronic equivalent circuit model allows definition of a voltage and frequency range for which ushing may be achieved, a novelty in electrowetting-based actuation. Experimental confirmation of the effect dem...

Avoiding the pull-in instability of a dielectric elastomer film and the potential for increased actuation and energy harvesting.

Pull-in instability often occurs when a film of a dielectric elastomer is subjected to an electric field. In this work, we concoct a set of simple, experimentally implementable, conditions that render the dielectric elastomer film impervious to pull-in instability for all practical loading conditions. We show that a uniaxially pre-stretched film has a significantly large actuation stretch in th...

Electrical actuation of dielectric droplets

Electrical actuation of liquid droplets at the microscale offers promising applications in the fields of microfluidics and lab-on-a-chip devices. Much prior research has targeted the electrical actuation of electrically conducting liquid droplets; however, the actuation of dielectric droplets has remained relatively unexplored, despite the advantages associated with the use of a dielectric drop...
